home away from home
...on my way home to fill a handful of prescriptions (antibiotics! steroids! inhaler!), and to get some more mucinex(!).i would like to be at work; or even better, here...

i am trying to avoid going here...
so, i will be here...

here's the long version:
i did not leave my house from when i got home from the doc's on thursday until when i had to go give my weekly blood today.
i woke up this morning and thought i was feeling well enough to go to work until i got out of bed and started getting ready. i was exhausted just from making and eating breakfast.
before i headed to kccc for my lab work, i contacted suzanne, my clinical trial nurse, to let her know i was still sick but that i was coming in for my weekly lab work as scheduled.
by the time i got there, suzanne had talked to dr. kent who asked the nurse practioner to work me into her schedule.
the NP (jenni) checked me out, gave me a stack of prescriptions and then sent me next door to JCIC for another chest x-ray.
the x-ray today showed that my lungs are okay, actually better than they were thursday...probably because of the massive work out they got...and massive doses of mucinex.
my temperature has remained normal...so, that is very good news. but i am still sick with some kind of upper respiratory thing.
their main concern is that my counts are bottoming out from last week's chemo, which means that in addition to already being beaten down from being sick, i have no immune system to fight off anything else i might encounter out in the big, bad world. so, what i have could get worse and/or i could pick up something else if i'm not careful.
as a consequence, i will be home again tomorrow...trying to force myself to eat. i lost 5 pounds since thursday, they were not too happy about that. but nothing tastes good right now, absolutely nothing...not even my favorite things. who would have ever thought that losing weight would be a bad thing?

Wish I was there to make you a big pot of chicken soup. I’m getting out my MaMa voice….You need to EAT :)
I’ll give you a few of my tips for getting calories down when you feel like crap….
Get a few containers of ensure, the chocolate flavor is good. Make a milkshake with ensure a banana and some super premium ice cream and sip on it. Also, use real cream in you tea or coffee. Butter, cream cheese and peanut butter are your friend for the next few days…
OK….I’ll quit nagging. Sorry you are feeling so crappy and hope you are on the mend now you have a fist full of drugs.
Hugs

yes, mama!
that is all really good advice.
peanut butter...i've got some of that. i'm gonna go get some right now.
i think the drugs are doing some good. i am feeling a bit better today. food is sounding better finally. this no appetite thing is a trip...i've always been a big eater.
it's 65 out, so i'm contemplating putting on a hat and getting some sun in my backyard.
hope you're feeling as okay as you can. i know this is a rough week for you too.
hugs,
~k
