Learning to Fly

"We create our lives a thought at a time. And sometimes, it comes

down to changing a thought such as 'Why did this happen to me?'
into 'There is a divine plan and there is a reason for this,
and my
choice is to create the most positive reaction I can.'"
-Dee Wallace Stone

"When you come to the edge of all the light you have,
and must take a step into the darkness of the unknown,
believe that one of two things will happen.
Either there will be something solid for you to stand on
or you will be taught how to fly"
-Patrick Overton

hi kelly I read your blog on a regular basis and I was wondering about some things. my deceased father in law was from the west plains area, thayer, and his mothers maiden name was Martin...also do you know Dee Wallace Stone? she is from KCK, went to Wyandotte and before Hollywood was a friend of my sister in law, still friends but not like back then. just curious....I am a 6 year bc survivor myself....Marilu

Hi Marilu,

Congrats on your 6 years!

I do know some Martins who live in Thayer, but I don't think we're related (or as they'd say in WP "kin") to them. One of my friends from high school married one of the Thayer Martins, otherwise I probably wouldn't know about them at all.

I don't know Dee and didn't know she's from KC I found her quote on another website and thought it was appropriate for the kind of journey we're on.

Do you live in KC as well?

Hi Kelly....I live in Overland Park out around 103rd. Dee's mom still lived in KCK until her passing a couple of years ago and Dee used to come back here and visit her mom at least twice a year. She always ate at the old Allen's drive inn on state avenue...don't know if its even there any more.I could tell you more about her but its boring....LOL.. Love your blog but hate the cancer journey......keep on...keeping on.....Love Marilu

Hi Deb,

Hope you're doing well too. How's your hair coming back in?

Hi Marilu,

103rd? My stomping grounds! I'm not far from there now, but I used to live in that brown house at 103rd and Dearborn back in the early 90's.

I also go to that Jose Peppers whenever I can. Can't beat 2 for $7 margaritas!

oh okay, THAT part of 103rd! i've lived over there too. in those apartments....lincoln something or other, i think.

i drive that way sometimes to get to my oncologist's office (KCCC Southwest, off of quivira and 110th) when i've got extra driving time and don't feel like dealing with 435W.

the brown house was just a rental that my sister, another girl and i lived in for a year or so. it was a good in between area from where we all worked at the time and close to the highway.

i'm in PV now, which is not close to any highway whatsoever!
