After much squishing and smooshing, my mammogram came back 'normal/benign'!!!!!
Ladies: Please get your mammograms and/or do your self exams! Both times I was diagnosed I found it on my own. Both times when the doctors and nurses tried to write me off, I had to be assertive and insist that something just wasn't right despite their "oh, you're too young, it's probably nothing, just take some ibuprofen, those aren't symptoms of cancer, everything's fine...we'll see you next year, you need to see your family doctor, you need to see your plastic surgeon, you need to see a physical therapist, etc." BS protestations.
You have to look out for yourself and be your own best advocate. Do not just blindly believe everything the "experts" say...no one knows your body like you do. Pay close attention to it, it gives you messages if you'll only stop and listen.
If your doctors aren't paying attention to you, find a different doctor. Get a second opinion, do research on your own, educate yourself. Burying your head in the sand is not smart and will not make anything disappear...except maybe you.
Do not avoid your annual check-ups, keep those appointments and make appointments for anything that pops up during the year between. Your fear of the doctor, or what you might find out there is nothing compared to what could happen if you let something go on or if something goes undetected for too long.
Would you not take your child to their annual appointments? Would you not move heaven and earth to get them to a doctor if they were sick? Why can you not take as good of care of yourself? You are someone's child, mother, wife, sister, aunt, friend. Take good care of yourself...if not for yourself, then for those of us who love you.
